About Megan Boddum Consulting

We help kid-first companies build even better toys, apps, and products

And introduce people who are great with kids to the world of children’s user research

There are 3 things we do really well:

1

Run children’s user research

2

Teach aspiring children’s researchers

3

Have fun with #1 and #2

Our work is play!

And we take it seriously. But we also laugh—a lot. (After all, we work with kids!)

Our mission is to help create high-quality products for kids

By making children’s user research accessible to companies and aspiring researchers, we contribute to products kids love, parents trust, and teachers want to use.

Because we believe in childhoods full of imagination, creativity, and play

We see a world where kids take their time growing up. And childhood is full of imagination, friendship, and the kind of play we had as kids.

Meet Megan Boddum

Lead researcher. Early childhood expert. Advocate for play.

I’ve always loved working with children. Growing up I was a camp counselor and babysitter extraordinaire.

After graduating college, I was on my way to becoming a teacher when I landed an internship-turned-job at Leapfrog Toys, where I helped run the research labs that tested toys and concepts in production alongside talented researchers and creatives in the children’s product space.

It was the first time I realized I could combine my experience working with children and creative development in one space and I was hooked!”

Today, as a leading expert and educator on qualitative kids’ user research, I help companies plan and execute children’s research in technology, media, toys and education.

I also teach courses on children’s user research both online and in graduate and undergraduate programs. And, I guest lecture and offer team training sessions to organizations worldwide.

I do what I do because I believe in childhoods full of imagination, creativity, and play. And I love supporting the people and teams working hard to make that happen.

Working with Megan was wonderful because she brings a wealth of knowledge in user research and ed tech design, but also listens carefully to align the work with the goals of the project.”

At the start of a project designing a new tool inclusive of neurodiverse learners, I wanted to run a series of codesign sessions with special ed classes. I brought Megan on to plan, facilitate, and analyze the codesign initiative. She is experienced in codesign and easily understood that we wanted to empower learners to act as designers and come up with ideas before we had done any prototyping ourselves. All along the way Megan was in close contact so we could iterate and make sure we were getting the kinds of student input that would center neurodiverse voices in our later designs. She was flexible and understanding, responsive and responsible, and able to draw on a number of resources to run codesign sessions that fit our project.
